your Father in heaven we invite your spirits presence this evening as we are gathered together here to open your word we just ask Lord that we can have minds that are receptive and we ask Lord that you can be with each person here that you can strengthen us and continue to teach us and we pray this in Jesus name Amen we're just doing a short study on Ezra 6 to 10 and it's short one is because we're gonna go through it quickly and the notes that you've received for those of you that have notes there's two different studies here's one is for Vespers tonight and one is for Vespers tomorrow so the two chiasm Zin 1844 that's going to be let me see here actually we're going to get through all the Kaiser it's the midst of the week that we're gonna study tomorrow night so that's going to start on page so page 7 so about halfway through so we're just gonna get through we're gonna actually do quite a bit here it's maybe not as short a study as I would like it to be but let's turn in our Bibles to the second decree and this is in Ezra chapter 6 verse 14 to 19 so I've been teaching a class through the week and we went through the book of Ezra and looked at all the chronology and we looked at all three decrees so we're not going to look at all three decrees here in one study but we are going to look at some specific things or specific dates that are mentioned and in Ezra chapter 6 this is when they finished building the temple which was 59 years before art exerts ease decree so some people didn't know that the temple was rebuilt and dedicated long before art exerts ease decree and we're gonna read this here where it tells us about it and it says and the elders of the Jews builded and they prospered through the prophesying of haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Edo and they builded and finished it according to the commandment of the God of Israel and according to the commandment of Cyrus and Darius and art exerts he's king of Persia and this house was finished on the third day of the month adar now a dar is the 12th month on the jewish calendar and this was on the third day of the month and that date is it was a Sabbath and it was March 12th 5:15 BC so I'm not going to be able to show you how we know these things but that's the date in which the temple was dedicated so it was the sixth year it says which was in the sixth year of the reign of dereyes the king so this is de rious the Persian not Durai as the mead and the children of Israel and the priests and the Levites and the rest of the children of the captivity kept the dedication of this house of God with joy so it talks about all the offerings that they had and then it says in the last verse verse 19 and the children of the captivity kept the Passover upon the fourteenth day of the first month so this was April 21st 515 BC so over here in 515 BC we have on the third day I guess I'll do it here so on the third day of the 12th month that they dedicate the temple so this is the dedication and on our our calendar that would be the 12th day of the third month that is March 12th and that's in 5:15 BC and then here I should do it this way this is the 13th month let me do it like this it's the first month or the thirteenth month so sometimes the Jews add a 13th month in 515 BC they didn't so in the 14th day of the first month they had a Passover so this is 40 days in between here so 40 days later they have this Passover and we're gonna see why this is important later now in the second or in the third decree so that's the second decree and I have a chart they're dealing with Zechariah and Haggai and the dates that are in their letters so if anybody wants to study that it's quite interesting and I also place the Rice's decree in 516 so about you know seven or eight months before the temple was dedicated de rice made a decree that allowed them to complete the temple so let's turn to Daniel chapter 9 and we're gonna see something in Daniel chapter 9 that we never noticed and the Millerites never noticed and seventh-day Adventists have not noticed and this message allows us to notice some details that we wouldn't have noticed without God's insight inside of the holy spirit and also all the light that has been pouring upon God's Word so in Daniel 9 verse 25 the diverse reads know therefore and understand that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks and threescore in two weeks it's so when when is this Daniel chapter 9 when is it saying or what event is marking the commencement of the 70 weeks what event according to the verse it seems to doing that really okay according to the verse what does it say get it going forth of the commandment the way that we normally read this would be be going forth of the commandment to restore and build Jerusalem that is we take it as there's this one event that's marked now if you look at the Hebrew or look at some other translations such as the bishops Bible was which was translated in 1568 which predates the King James and the King James was actually based to a large degree upon the bishops Bible but in this case the bishops Bible shows us something that you don't notice in the King James and that is when it says the going forth of the commandment and it says to restore that word restore is a Hebrew word which means to return it's the word shoe and so it's talking about a return not a restoration of the city it's talking about a return of somebody and it actually the King James translators translated it correctly because the word restore means to return so if you take something from somebody and you restore it to them you've returned it now it also then is marking a separate event which is the to build so the way that we look at it this is in 457 BC that we're now this was 515 so this was the second degree but we're gonna look here and we're gonna say that on the first day of the first month so we're just gonna mark this one because in 457 BC there was a 13th month and so the first day of the first month is when Ezra leaves Babylon and so we have this point that we're going to be talking about so we have the going forth and we're gonna see this and we're gonna have some other things in connection with this so let's look at these verses this isn't Azra seven verse six and nine so let's turn over there to ed back to Ezra if I'm going too fast just let me know you don't understand something but in Ezra seven six to nine and we're familiar with this because we all know about Ezra 7 verse 8 and 9 but I'm just gonna start at verse 6 and it says this Ezra went up from Babylon and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses which the Lord God of Israel had given and the King granted him all his requests according to the hand of the Lord his God upon him and there went up some of the children of Israel and of the priests and the Levites and the singers and the porters and the Neth anims unto Jerusalem in the seventh year of Arctic Circle King and he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month which was the seventh year of the king for upon the first day of the first month began he to go up from Babylon and on the first day of the fifth month came heed to Jerusalem so the first day of the first month as we know he left Babylon so this is the going forth from Babylon and then on the first day of the fifth month he returned so this is to return so we think of it as to restore but to return and this is Jerusalem so the bishops Bible says the return of the people so this is when the people have returned and in Ezra chapter okay so before we get to chapter 8 does this make sense to everybody this idea now that we're recognizing in this verse that it's not just marking the going forth so William Miller he marked the going forth in the spring and I do have a quote of the of his this is a little further down this is from William Miller's works and it would be on the third page of your notes that we're reading like halfway into the quote he says the Bible chronology says that Ezra started to go up to Jerusalem on the 12th day of the first month and we're gonna come back to this quote here but the point is he's marking this another event rather than the first day of the first month so when I studied William Miller before I always assumed that he was marking the first day of the first month as the going forth of the commandment but as you look at it he actually marked the 12th day of the first month so we're gonna look at this so we're gonna go back and look at this in Ezra chapter 8 so we're gonna go through as a chapter 8 here fairly quickly and verse 15 we're gonna start and it says and I gather them together to the river that runneth to a Hava and there we we intense and their abode we intense three days and I viewed the people and the priests and found that there were none of the sons of Levi so some of you may know this story that he leaves Babylon and he comes to the river I have a-- so over here we're going to have the river Ahava and they stay there for three days now we're gonna find when they leave so let's read in Ezra chapter 8 verse 23 to 26 tiller yes sorry I don't got white you to return so the first day of the fifth month they returned they returned to Jerusalem yeah right yeah so that's the return the word shoe we need to return so that's what happened on the first day of the fifth month so in Ezra 8 verse 23 to 26 I'm not going to read the verse but if you look at it it says that when they get to the river I have ax we read that they were there there for three days and in verse 23 to 26 we find that they take the gold and the silver no some of this gold and silver was offerings and some of this came from art exerts ease but this gold and silver was weighed and distributed amongst the priests so at the river Ahava we're also going to have here gold and silver and in eighth verse 31 it says then we departed from the river i have' on the 12th day of the first month to go unto jerusalem and the hand of our God was upon us and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy and of as such as lay in wait by the way so they left Babylon and they weren't plundered by anybody because they had some wealth with them gold and silver but they leave on the 12th day of the first month so I'm gonna write this in here you got the 12th day of the first month and that means that there is but before this day there's three days that they wait so they wait there for three days and then the date that is given it to us in Ezra is the twelfth day of the first month so does anybody know which day Judas went to the priests and betrayed Christ like sold him to the priests does anybody know would you ever think about this I have never thought about it before but we find this here so let's read this william miller's quote so again that's on your third page so he says the bible chronology says that ezra started to go up to jerusalem in the 12th day of the first month four hundred and fifty seven years before the birth of christ so he believes that Jesus was born I'm not sure exactly zero the zero year or something he doesn't quite think that through he being 33 when he died so he believed Jesus was crucified in 33 AD so he added to that 457 to make 490 years three of the evangelists tell us he was betrayed two days before the Feast of the Passover and of course was the same day crucified so on the day of the Passover he was crucified so two days before he was crucified he was betrayed so this isn't when Judas came and kissed him this is when Judas went to the priests and took some money to betray him and so then he says the Passover was always kept on the fourteenth day of the first month forever and Christ being crucified two days before so I'm not sure what he means Christ being crucified two days before so it's not quite clear would make it on the twelfth day so he was not crucified he was betrayed two days before 490 years from the time that Ezra left the river Ahava to go unto Jerusalem so william miller's incorrect about the year but he has this interesting point is that on the twelfth day of the first month jesus was betrayed so it's just an interesting point it's actually not really part of my study but it's just something i noticed today so because I never knew why the twelfth day of the first month what would be the significance now we would also notice that Ezra is not keeping the Passover that is he's not in Jerusalem to keep the Passover but they're on their journey during the time of the Passover and we know that they get as we're gonna see that when they arrive to Jerusalem it's on the first day of the fifth month as we read and we're gonna find out some more about that so let's read this in Ezzor 8 verse 32 to 33 so we know that they came to Jerusalem on the first day of the fifth month and he says and we came to Jerusalem and a boat there three days and then he says now on the fourth day was the silver and the gold and the vessels weighed in the house of our God by the hand of Mara moth the son of Uriah the priest so what ends up happening is he arrives on the first day of the fifth month and in three days he waits before he brings the gold and silver to the temple and it says on the fourth day so that actually would have been the Sunday so on the first day of the week he goes to the temple and brings the gold and the silver at least that's the way that I read it because he would have arrived on a Thursday was the fifth first day of the fifth month Friday was the second Sabbath would have been the third and so the fourth day would have been the Sunday in 457 BC so we noticed something here I'm gonna get rid of this 40 days I'm gonna take this three alone let me see here no nevermind that's fine somehow I have to so we have these three days here I'm gonna get rid of this gold and silver I'm just gonna right here there's three days and this is the twelfth day of the first month there's three days and then we have the first day the fifth month and there's three days so what did we learn about chiasm from elder Parminder would this be a chiasm if you looked at this and you saw a three and a date and then a date and a three is this a mirror or a chiasm okay now what also besides the three days what also helps us recognize it's the chiasm so i erased the gold and silver here but we have here gold and silver and over here we have gold and silver now what a chiasm does is it's not the chiasm that's the important thing it's that it points us to something now there are some chiasm where the first half of the structure is usually some transition to another half well here we're going from Babylon to Jerusalem so there's a journey but what we would normally do is try to find out what's in the middle of the chiasm not all chiasm have a middle but what would be the middle of this chiasm I know it's a little bit hard to do but how many days is there in each of these months does anybody know how many days are there in a month okay so there's usually 30 but in the Jewish calendars 30 29 30 29 and so you could count these all out and I've done it and it depends how you count because sometimes you can start with the twelfth day of the first month as zero or you could start with it as one but I'm going to start with it as one and if you do this and you count this period of time here from the twelfth day of the first month to the first day of the fifth month you find it's a hundred and seven days and the center of this if I was going to break this into half obviously I can't cut a hundred and seven perfectly in half but we would find that the sixth day of the third month is in the middle of this chiasm so does anybody know what the sixth day of the third month is I know some people here know but on the Jewish calendar they have all these different feasts so we have Passover which is on the 14th we have the first day of the feast of unleavened bread that's on the 15th and then on the 16th we have firstfruits what happens 50 days after firstfruits you have Pentecost so this is Pentecost and this is being marked by a chiasm in 457 BC now just to count this if this is the sixth day of the third month which is Pentecost we know that's the fiftieth day from the 16th day of the first month so that means if I was here and I'm counting the 16th would be the 50th 50 days this way the 15th would be how many days 15th so I started 16 that's 50 and if I keep moving this way one more day that's going to be the 15th is going to be how many days between the 15th and the sixth day of the third month if I go one day this way 51 right and if I go to Passover how many days is it from Passover to Pentecost 52 and how about from the 13th day to to Pentecost so if I go from the 13th how many days would it be 53 and if I go from the 12th how many would it be 54 so this is 54 days and if you count this way you'll find this is also 54 days so Pentecost is the middle once that's the way I've counted it and I count you know from the 12th day of the first month to the first day the fifth month I count 107 days so I'm not going to go and count all these days for you but that's the way I count it now we then have this chiasm with Pentecost in the middle now in the 70 week prophecy what is the 70 week prophecy about what's the purpose of it what's that rice okay points to Christ what what about Christ is appointing with ruff okay the cross confirming the cognate under me confirm me the coming in the midst of the week which is their study tomorrow night so we're gonna look at that if we look at Passover and Pentecost and all these things what is what is that in contrast to the Day of Atonement so the day of atonement is the feasts that happen in the seventh month and we have these other feasts that happens at the beginning a year what would we call these feasts what are they spring types right and fall types so the spring types what are they what is accomplished in the spring types okay let's look at it this way what's accomplished in the fall types what what work happens in the fall types okay Judgment Day of Atonement and what happens on the day of atonement what does Christ do on the day of gender Linda's like okay cleanse the sanctuary how does he do that look okay okay as what so that's the sacrifice way back in the spring types where does he do this the cleansing of the sanctuary in the most holy place okay in the spring types what where does he begin his work in the spring types so he first has the sacrifice but where does he start his work as a high priest in the holy place right so we have the most holy place in the holy place Alawite tells us that on Pentecost in 31 ad Christ began his work in the holy place of the heavenly sanctuary that is he inaugurated his work so when the Holy Spirit was being poured out on the disciples Christ was beginning his work in the holy place so he had been there for a while because he ascended 10 days before but he didn't begin his work in the holy place until the day of Pentecost and so this marks the work that is the primary purpose of the 70 weeks that is for Christ to be working in the holy place so now let's look at the to build so we're going to look at as your chapter 8 verse 36 so this is just the end of Azra chapter 8 is the last verse and it says and they delivered the king's commissions unto the king's lieutenants and to the governors on this side the river and they furthered the people and the house of God so what is this talking about what is it this delivering the Kings commissions unto the king's lieutenants and governors on this side of the river does anybody know what that's referring to so Ezra's in Jerusalem now and what is he doing here in this verse he's delivering the decree right so there has been governor's and lieutenants and people that were responsible for the city of Jerusalem which is controlled by Babylon and when Ezra comes he delivers documents to these people so now he's beginning a work of taking over the administration of the city now we often don't think about this but this decree we're gonna look at we're gonna look at Ezra's decree here in a minute but we don't often really understand what the decree is about because we imagine at least I always did that the decree has something to do with rebuilding the city where does something to do with maybe with the temple right because I always thought the temple was completed after arctic search to Crete so when we look at this we'll see that there's a whole bunch going on in this story that we never noticed before so let's look at Azra chapter 9 verse 1 to 4 so that's just the next verse now when these things were done the princes came to me saying the people of Israel and the priests and the Levites have not separated themselves from the people of the lands doing according to the abominations even of the Canaanites the Hittites the parasites the Jebusites the ammonites the Moabites the Egyptians and the amorite for they have taken of their daughters for themselves and for their sons so that the holy seed have been mingled them have mingled themselves with the people of those lands yay the hand of the princes and rulers have been chief in this trespass and when I heard this thing I rent my garment and my mantle and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard and I sat down astonied then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel because of the transgression of those that had been carried away and I sat astonied until the evening sacrifice so Ezra was and this is right after this happened so I don't think that this is I mean I'm not quite sure because some of this they don't really give us a timeline so we know they could get to Jerusalem they deliver the gold and silver to the temple and then it appears that immediately they give this commission to the lieutenant's and governors of Babylon to show that this decrees going into effect and then it appears that this happens shortly thereafter but it's hard to tell I kind of have a feeling that it it happens much later but I have no way just reading this story to figure out the timeline of it so it says in verse five and at the evening sacrifice I rose up from my heaviness and having rent my garments and my mantle I fell upon my knees and spread out my hands unto the Lord my god so he makes this confession about their sins which I'm not going to read this whole confession and then we get to chapter 10 and then it says now when Ezra had prayed and when he had confessed weeping and casting himself down before the house of God there assembled unto Him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children for the people wept very sore and check and I have the son of jackal one of the sons of Elam answered and said unto Israel we have trespassed against our God and have taken strange wives of the people and have and end of the land yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing so they agree to make this covenant to remove these strange wives and so when you read this it all just seems to happen and just flow one after the other verse 6 Ezra goes to the roof before the house of God into the chamber of Johan and the son of Elijah and when he came through there he did eat no bread nor drink water for he mourned because of the transgression of them that had been carried away and then in verse 7 and they made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all the children of the captivity that they should gather themselves together unto Jerusalem and that whosoever would not come within three days according to the counsel of the princes and the elders all his substance should be forfeited and himself separated from the congregation of those that had been carried away so as I said I can't figure out how this all happens it seems to happen just all at once but obviously it doesn't as you will see now let's look at Azra chapter 7 verse 25 and 26 so this is the decree of artaxerxes and it says and thou Azra after the wisdom of thy God that is in thine hand set magistrates and judges which may judge all the people that are beyond the river all such as know the laws of thy God and teaching them that know them not and whosoever will not do the law of thy God and the law of the King the judgment be executed speedily upon him whether it be unto death or to banishment or confiscation of goods or to imprisonment so there's four different powers that they have that they can execute in in judgment against people who are not obeying the law and so this means that these magistrate's and judges this sort of civil authority is what the heart of the decree of artaxerxes is about so when we look at what the to build is we're going to find it's nothing to do with building the temple or even the city it has to do with this judicial and civil government so then when we look at this Proclamation it says that according to the Council of the priests and the elders all substance should be forfeited and himself separated from the congregation of those that have been carried away so that those that do not gather together in Jerusalem within three days they now are list two of the things in that list which would be banishment and confiscation of goods that they're going to have is a penalty so what does this tell us about what has happened by this point so if he's able to do this what does this mean it was that he now has authority to do so so somewhere from the time that he's arrived in Jerusalem on the first day of the fifth month to this point here he has enacted this civil authority yes this is organization well yes this would be organization movements okay now in Ezra 10 verse 9 it's going to tell us when this occurs then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together unto Jerusalem within three days it was the ninth month on the 20th day of the month and all the people sat in the street of the house of God trembling because of this matter and for the great rain so as the ninth month is when they have a lot of rain you find that in Nehemiah as well it's the month kiss live so the ninth month kiss live so we see here that on the 20th day of the ninth month over here 20th day of the ninth month after three days they then have this meeting where they confess their sins and we can see also there's more to this as well we notice that after they delivered the gold and silver they deliver these documents to the lieutenant's and governors of Babylon who had been ruling in Jerusalem and then we can see obviously three days before the 20th day of the ninth month they have now enacted for the first time that we know of enacted a decree using that authority so what would be in the center of the first day of the fifth month and the 20th day of the ninth month so let's just do 30 days in a month because it makes it easier to count so each of these months have 30 days so 30 plus 30 is 60 plus another 60 is how many so I got 60 90 120 and then how many days if we had the 20 to 120 so this is 140 days right so that means we had just have to go 70 days from here so how many days how many days is it from the first day of the first month to the tenth day of the seventh month we already know this because we know it's a hundred and twenty days from the first day of the first month to the first day of the fifth month and it's 70 days from the first day the fifth month to the tenth day of the seventh month right so this is 70 days and this is 70 days so we can see that the center of this chiasm is the day of atonement and if this is the going forth of the commandment and this is the return this is the two bills okay so we have two chiasm Xin 457 anybody not follow it you have trouble to me it's really simple to see well we we have a a chiasm that points to Pentecost so from those three days if you just count the days in between it's gonna be a hundred and seven days and it's divided as 54 and 54 now technically if we counted from the first day of the fifth month to the 20th day of the ninth month it'd be 138 days because there would be two months with only 29 days and so it'd be 69 days and 69 days but you're still going to have the tenth day of the seventh month as the center of that chiasm so the seventy weeks are fulfilled by the spring types and in the spring types here they put Pentecost as the center because that's when Christ begins his work in the holy place in 31 ad in the midst of the week right so that 70th week also has a chiasm that points to the center of it which is the cross but also points to Pentecost and then we have the second kaya's and the points to the Day of Atonement which deals with the 2300 days so the 2300 days addresses Christ moving from the holy to the most holy so here in 457 we have two really good arguments for seventh-day Adventists to demonstrate to other people that 457 BC even if they don't accept this 457 BC yet but at least that this history is connected with the 70 weeks and the 2300 days so if you want to tie the 70 weeks and the 2300 days together all we have is seventh-day Adventists when we present it to other people is 70 weeks are determined our cutoff but only seventh-day Adventists buy into that argument because just because the root of the word means cutoff doesn't mean that decree means cut off from a bigger thing that's an application right so we can do it as an application but we can't take Daniel chapter 9 verse 24 and just say it says determine seventy weeks are determined that means cut off from 2300 days we can do that as an application but here we have something that we can demonstrate that they are connected just by Ezra Czerny and the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem is not just about you know building Jerusalem it's about these events the Day of Atonement and Pentecost now we can also tie these to 1844 so we're gonna look at the two chasms in 1844 now we know this one chiasm very well because from the first day of the first month to the tenth day of the seventh month we had this in I think it was in 2000 and trying to think when it occurred was it 2015 that we figured out midnight so midnight is simply by Counting from the first day of the first month when which is April 19th so this is 1844 so we got April 19th and we got October 22 and we counted out that there's a hundred and eighty seven days and that the center of this is a chiasm marking the fifth day of the fourth month which we mark is midnight and the reason why we mark it is midnight is for the fact that Samuel snow and Allan white both mark it as midnight so let's look at it here this is from the great controversy 398 Ellen White says while the bridegroom tarried they all slumbered and slept and at midnight there was a cry made behold the bridegroom cometh go ye out to meet him then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps from Matthew 25 verse 5 to 7 in the summer of 1844 midway between the time when it had been first thought that the 2300 days would end and the autumn of the same year to which it was afterward found that they extended the message was proclaimed in the very words of Scripture behold the bridegroom cometh so when was the time that it had first been thought that the 2300 days would end okay well the last day of the Jewish year 1843 so originally they had I mean if you really want to think about it originally they just have the year 1843 then in in December of 1842 William Miller for the first time said that 1843 on the chart refers to not January 1 to December 31st but from March 21st to March 21st and as they continued to look at it they realized that the last day of the Jewish year was April 18th so that means by the time evening of April 18th when the first day of the first month began Miller's prophecies would have completely ended so so midway between that time and the autumn of the same year so this is referring to October 22nd because that's when they now see they extended to October 22nd so she's not saying October 22nd here but that's what she's referring to is October 22nd she then says that which led to this movement was the discovery of the decree of artaxerxes for the restoration of Jerusalem which formed the starting point for the period of the 2300 days went into effect in the autumn of the year 457 BC now we often hear seventh-day adventists that the decree was given in the fall of 457 has anybody ever heard that that the decree was given right or issued we hear all kinds of strange things that obviously can't be true because if it was issued then that mean otezla would have had to travel in the year 456 not 457 but people aren't very precise about these things you know we're becoming more precise all the time so this idea then that it's Midway many Adventists and including us believe that this referred to Exeter so the Exeter camp meeting where Samuel snow rides up on the horse and all those things happen you know brother Bates yields the podium to him and he then presents this message and in fact this next paragraph that or the next two paragraphs that I'm going to read this is from loft Burroughs book and he it's the great second Advent movement its rise in progress page 523 so this is from loft Burroughs book but he places this not Midway he places this at Exeter now we've come to understand that the first day of the fifth month is Exeter right so over here you have Exeter but the fifth day of the fourth month is Boston and so that date and I guess I should put the dates here so this is you know July 21st and this is August 15th so August 15th is when Samuel snow presents the three lectures in on the 15th which is the Thursday and then that message goes out with power but he also presented it in Boston on July 21st so this is what he actually said not at Exeter but at Boston brother snow thus questioned them where are we in our Advent experience answer from the audience where are we in the tearing time right how long was the vision to tarry until midnight good what is a day in prophecy when then what would a night be then what would midnight be how long have we been in the tearing time so if it was in August how long had they been in the tearing time if this was at Exeter one two three four months right so obviously this could not be Exeter so it has to be Boston and he said then it is just the midnight now and I'm here with the midnight cry in a few sentences he explained that it was the fall of 457 that the decree went forth and so they were short six months in their reckoning showing them that the 2300 days would terminate October 22 1844 instead of the spring as they had previously supposed then in a strong voice he said behold the bridegroom cometh on the tenth day of the seventh month October 22 1844 go ye out to meet him so this is probably not exactly the way he worded it because I know in July he hadn't actually found the date October 22 they were still trying to figure out the actual date you know he knew as the tenth day of the seventh month but the fact that he declares this midnight he knows that he's Midway but he doesn't realize he's exactly Midway and so this is very very powerful this idea now we're going to look really really briefly at Samuel snows letters so I'm not going to do a full detailed description of them we're not going to read them but Samuel snow has and you'll find this on your paper you have this picture that's sideways so you'll find all these dates there and it's kind of in the middle box at the ball it lists five letters now one of them is not a letter when it's hard to look at the side race one of them is not a letter where he's he's specifically dealing with the the prediction in the fall so that one he's dealing with the disappointment of the markers and how people had criticized them after the disappointment so I'm not going to really go into much about the content of the letters but he has his first letter written I believe it's on the 26th day of the 11th month that is it's on February 16th so he has this letter written on February 16th and then this letter is published in the midnight cry on the third day of the 12th month so we got the third day of the 12th month now we can see in 515 BC the first day of the 12th the third day of the 12th month is March 12th but that's not true in 1844 because the Jewish calendar starts on different dates every year so this letter here so this is letter number one this is when it's first published so we go 1 1 a 1 B this is the dedication of the temple so the date that it's published on is the dedication of the temple in 515 BC now we could say well why is that significant well one is we see that we will see and we have seen that lots of the things that happen in the 3rd decree are dates that are matched in 1844 so the first day of the first month and the first day of the fifth month and the tenth day of the seventh month all occur under the 3rd decree and they're marked his way marks in 1844 now the 2nd decree is yielding us some dates and they give us also a connection so when we read about the dedication of the temple we saw also that a Passover followed 40 days later on the fourteenth day of the first month now in 1844 there's a 13th month so here this letter the first letter which is written on February 16th it's published on February 22nd in the midnight cry and then it's republished on the 14th day of the of them thirteenth month but this is in 1844 the Jews didn't add the thirteenth month they counted this is the 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th and they kept the Day of Atonement on September 23rd 1844 and this is true both of the rabbis the rabbinic Jews and also the carriage Jews so they all kept September 23rd as the Day of Atonement and they marked March 21st as the first day of the first month in 1844 so when you go from March 21st and you count 14 days you'll find that you arrive Passover in 1844 for the rabbinic Jews was here it was April 3rd so why is this significant well Samuel Snow's letter was published in the midnight cry on this date and it was republished in the signs of the times on April 3rd and so in 515 BC when we read Azhar chapter 6 verse 14 to 19 we found that this dedication of the temple was followed by a Passover and so those two verses or those verses are that those events are brought together in Ezra chapter 6 but we can see they're brought together in 1844 with Samuels first samuel snows first letter does that make sense the idea that he's publishes a letter on a date that's the same date on the Jewish calendar in 5:15 and it's republished on the Passover that followed so 40 days later we see this letter republished so this shows that the events of the second decree the dedication and the Passover are tied to Samuel snows letters to that first letter now Samuel snow has a second letter and we're going to discuss this a little bit more in detail tomorrow evening the implications about some of these things so right now I'm trying to just get us to think about it how significant is that Samuel snow has these letters published on these these particular dates so his second letter is published on may 2nd so it's really hard to fit all this stuff in here but May 2nd is his second letter so it's right here it's so that's his second letter there is no no date for when it was written so we don't have the date it was written and we only have it published once and in May 2nd which is Passover the correct Passover in 1844 if the tenth day of the seventh month is October 22nd then April 19th is the first day of the first month and if this is the first day of the first month you would count from April 19 14 days short you 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 so April only has 30 so that'd be the first and then the second so April only has so May 2nd is the 14th if you count it out I like using my fingers because it's easy to have them and so May 2nd is Passover so we're gonna have to pass over here's Passover's we have a Passover on April 3rd and we have another Passover on May 2nd this is not the correct Passover this is but this is the Passover that was kept by the Jews the rabbi's and the Karaites now the May 2nd letter and we're gonna focus on that because we're gonna deal with the content of that May 2nd letter yes you have a question down yeah so number one shouldn't be April and May 7 shouldn't be the number 2 there ok this is the first month yeah that's April for us in a chief recording this is this first month such April 19th and halfway in the 1st mommy is passing yeah you're right ok yeah thank you Thanks but some people might have been confused by that now I know you have this really nice looking chart looks way better than the one up here in a piece of paper but I have to draw this messy one for people who are watching the video yes can you go over again why the one Passover is wrong okay so the Jews and and some of the students who were in my class they noticed this because I was having them used a program where you see the first Crescent to start the year and it's it you can look at each month and what they found is that they got fooled by this in 457 so they didn't get fooled by it in 1844 because I had them do 457 first but in both of these years 457 in 1844 which not this year so this year didn't have a 13th month but 457 did 515 didn't and that month comes after the spring equinox so what happens is it's very close together the spring equinox in 457 in 1844 are almost at the same time so even if somebody is using the spring equinox to determine do we add an extra month it's very close so the Jews did not and you can see the first day of the first month is March 21st so March 21st is like one day after the spring equinox but they don't count the spring equinox the way we do they have to wait until the the day the Sun set and at sunset then the spring equinox has begun so they don't count it the way we do it's by observation and it's at sunset the first the first date of March 21st of March 20th to April 19 right so if you have March 21st is the first day of the first month April 3rd is Passover but March 21st isn't the first day of the first month April 19th is so May 2nd is the Passover ok so very good question and and that has to be true if October 22nd is the tenth day of the seventh month so the Millerites came to understand this bit by bit slowly they got confused a lot they made some mistakes along the way but we had this the second letter on May 2nd now as I said we're going to look at that a bit more but the content of that is the midst of the week that is Elder Taba was presenting that that is the PBM and this new insight or this prediction before midnight was light upon what was going to happen in the future so that's how we looked at it at first but there's two other letters two more letters of Samuel snow now there's one on May 1st and I'm not going to deal with that but that one just deals with the markers but we have another letter and this letter is written on this date the 6th day of the 3rd month so what's the significance of the date his third letter is written it's Pentecost so he writes a third letter on the day of Pentecost and this one even deals with the the disappointment so deals with the fact that it was necessary that there was a mistake in the reckoning of the prophetic periods and basically he foreshadows all that Ellen White says about it about the necessity of the mistake on the charts so this one is June 22nd so if you would count out these these days on in 1844 you'll find the June 22nd is the 6th day of the third month so it's Pentecost and there's some other things about it now his letters were written on June 22nd it's published vii and there's some mathematical connections that show that they both point to pentecost but i'm not going to do the math for you because that'll just confuse you and then we also have a fourth letter and the fourth letter is written actually june 29th but it's published three days before midnight so over here on the fifth day of the fourth month we have another letter that's written three days before and that's gonna be on July 18th so so this is July 21st here not this line this is July 21st so I'm going to write July 21st up here and three days before there's a letter written and that's July 18th so that's the fourth letter so you got the third letter here June 22nd and the fourth letter of July 18th so we're gonna look at this in a bit more time after we pray and sing a song to bring in the Sabbath then we will look at this and maybe our minds will be a little bit more refreshed and we'll be able to to go through this because there's just a little bit more to do so I'm going to I know you all have the diagram in your book and I'm going to just get rid of some of this here and try to simplify this a little bit so we got all these dates and all these numbers that's let's kind of start this over so I'm just gonna quickly review what we have we have these two chiasm x' that go from well I'm not even going to bother writing the date so we have what we really have is we have a chiasm the points to Pentecost in 457 and another chiasm that points to the Day of Atonement and the significance of this chiasm is that it's a hundred and seven days and it's divided into two periods of 54 days now this one just for for simplicity and for the fact that I really like 70 and 70 so this one is divided into two periods of 70 days really periods of 69 days and the focus of these ones are the fact that there's three days and three days and three days so this three days happens three times in 457 BC now we also had of course the dedication of the temple which is on the third day of the 12th month on the Jewish calendar and the 12th day of the third month on our calendar and this is when Samuel snows letter is first published so on February 22 in 1844 we have the publication in the midnight cry and then it's republished on April 3rd and we know that this is Passover but it's not and then we know that it's Repub his second letter is published on may 2nd may 2nd is Passover and we also have a third letter and that third letter is published on Pentecost so it's on the sixth day third month on the Jewish calendar and it's June 22nd and then we know he has a fourth letter and that fourth letter is published so we got July 21st is midnight but this one has published three days before midnight on the 18th so this letter here it's published July 18th so those are the four letters and the most significant dates I mean there's when they're written when they're published are all important and we also know that we have another chiasm right so we have the chiasm that's starting here on the first day of the first month all right so we've got the first day the first month which is April 19th and this chiasm goes all the way to here on the tenth day of the seventh month now I want you to think about some things so these these are you know this is kind of a curiosity the fact that we have a Jewish date in five fifteen BC for the dedication of the temple that the inversion is the date on the Julian calendar so this could be you know coincidence which I don't really believe in coincidences so I believe that this is by design that God has done this and what he has done is he's connected the biblical calendar and the Julian calendar out one of our calendars together so that those numbers are significant and we know that when Jesus was well let's say the temple was destroyed in 70 AD is that significant that it's 70 AD it has to be but 70 AD is just a date on a pagan calendar but yet God uses that date as symbol we also know in 31 ad Jesus is crucified and some have seen that the 31 ad is built into the 70 weeks the 31 because 62 weeks is just doubled of 31 weeks but also Christ is crucified in the midst of the week which is 31 ad and that midst of the week if you multiply 7 by 12 by 31 you get the whole period of the prophetic mirror so that's a whole other study if you don't know that study just leave it out of your mind right now but so God uses these dates and numbers are significant so here on the fifth day of the fourth month right this is the fifth day the fourth month which is midnight Samuel snow makes a prediction about the tenth day of the seventh month now if I did this what have I just done here's the number 107 in this chiasm and I just added a dnm right but I get tenth day of the seventh month right can I do that well I can do it here as well fifth day fourth month fifth day fourth month and a lot of you know that from the first day of the first month the detent stay the seventh month is how many days 187 days so if I take this what do I get I get this date July 18th on our calendar so this actually happens time and time again so it's not just a curiosity to me there's this connection so now I wouldn't you know no theologian would use this method you know make this type of application but the common person would they would see this as significant and one of the things I like about this presentation here on Ezra 's you know Ezra's dates first so the dates of the chronology of Ezra is that you can show this to any seventh-day Adventist and if they're open-minded they're not antagonistic towards you they're going to see this they're gonna see that Pentecost and the Day of Atonement is important it's significant that this occurs under Arctic services decree and if you can show them even the Passover you know that happens here in 5:15 along with the dedication of the temple so the 14th day of the first month then you can later connect us to Samuel snows letters when they're published and I cry and signs of the times and so you could start to show them to a seventh-day Adventist not just that their significance here about October 22nd and that we can demonstrate that the 70 weeks in the 2300 days that point to these two events the Christ's work in the Holy in the most holy place but it also shows us that millerite history is significant that the dates in millerite history so here this is dealing with the decrees and and if I was going to present this message you know this is if I was going to do it to somebody who's not in this message I would start here because to me this would be the least offensive thing that I could present would be the start of the 2300 days in the seventy weeks but I'm already setting them up for things like chiasm you know said I'm not trying to trick them I'm just trying to introduce things that they might never have thought of and see them in ways that they start to look at the Bible differently and that's why I also used the chiasm the 430 year chiasm of thus adjoining of the children of Israel that's divided into two periods of 215 years which everybody accepts that chiasm people already know about you know two hundred fifteen years in Cain and two hundred fifteen years in Egypt and and then I also show them the chiasm of Joseph where there's the twenty-two years from when his visions his dreams happen and when they're fulfilled divided into two periods of 11 years and there's a whole bunch of things there as well and so you can show people things that aren't you know directly related to this message if you want to to open their eyes to the idea that we can study the Bible differently because what you really want people to do is to study the Bible differently because if they can study the Bible correctly they're going to see this message but if you try to use the methods that that our church has been using for a long time we find that even the people who are presenting this message you know presenting seventh-day Adventism start to lose confidence in it because they're using protestant methods to study the bible which really comes from catholic methods and so this could increase a person's confidence in God's Word it's what it's done for me of course not every person's gonna like these types of presentations but you might find some people that do and I presented it to many seventh-day adventists and some of them see it right away and then there's some that are very resistant they won't look at it but the ones who see it you know God has an opportunity to work in their lives to help them see this message now of course we have this this chiasm and and this is significant too because if on the study of Ezekiel we know that Ezekiel had his first vision on July 21st and 592 which was the fifth day of the fourth month so it was the same date on the Julian calendar in 592 as it was in 1844 and that's because in 592 the first day of the first month was April 19th so the first day the first month is April 19th the dates are going to be the same and he had his last vision in 573 which the Year 573 also started on April 19th so his vision on the tenth day of the seventh month is October 22nd so the fact that his first and last vision are matching our dates in 1844 very sick but this is of course not a study on Hezekiah's whole other study now what we do have is we have this other another chiasm that's here in Samuel snows letters now Samuel snows letter was written on February 16th that's the date he gives for the writing of the letter you know to brother Southard and it bothered me for a time that this date didn't have significance because every other date does June 22nd is the date he wrote this letter and I'm just going to show you this here so he was wrote it on June 22nd but it was published on June 27th and this is in your notes in that little box and it shows that this is actually the 11th day of the third month that is it's just five days after it was written it was published so if it was written on the sixth day of the third month five days later would be the eleventh day of the third month and that I found that if I doubled this date so I add 11th day third month to itself I get the 22nd day of the sixth month and thus or 22nd day of the sixth month is the date the letter was written on our calendar June 22nd so it's called the Gordian knot it's a little puzzle that points back to itself and so God has this Gordian knot in the writing and the publication of Samuel snows third letter the fourth letter is published July 18th three days before midnight so that's very significant because we know that three days is used here in 457 but also three days is a symbol of the prediction before midnight so we've used this three days in the story of the butler and the Baker in the story of Ezra and other places so we have this letters written three days before or published three days before but it's written on June 29th well June 29th is actually Pentecost in 457 so the date of the writing and the publication of all these letters is significant but the first letter is written on February 16th which is the 22nd day of the 11th month and I couldn't do anything mathematically with it so what I found is that as I when I come to my wit's end so that's pretty often I have to then pray and give up and say god you're gonna have to do something and so after I'd struggle with this for a few weeks I had a dream and in my dream I was told to double this now in my dream I was trying all kinds of weird things to make something happen with this date I was using Roman numerals as ready nun but as upside down and backwards and all kinds of things and even when I was told to double it I couldn't do anything in my dream you know it didn't make sense but as soon as I woke up I went to the whiteboard and I did this I took February 16th and I added 2 months and 16 days right so I just done like this and I thought well if I add 2 months to February that's going to give me April 16th and then if I had 16 days to April that will give me May 2nd so May 2nd is his second letter so I thought that was really interesting from here to here is 2 months and 16 days now I could have also and I'm not sure why I didn't even try this just counting the days because it's 77 days which is kind of nice but this is 77 days by the way between the writing of his first letter and the May 2nd letter which we called the PBM and one time how we understand that I'm still not quite sure because we've had a lot of changes in how we look at things but we still sort of label it this way and then I was told to double it again so I actually add 2 months and 16 days to May 2nd and of course that's easy that's July 18th so July 18th is the last letter over here so I know that from the writing of the first letter to the publication of the last letter is a chiasm with divided into two months and 16 days on either side or 77 days and so may 2nd becomes the center of this chiasm now this is important because this is what we're going to study tomorrow night is that in the May 2nd letter he's dealing with the 70 week prophecy and specifically the 70th week showing that Jesus was crucified in 31 ad in the midst of the week with three and a half years on either side so one is he has a paper published on Passover that's addressing Passover in 31 ad that has a chiasm that he's introducing and it is the center of a chiasm right so God has done this by design you can't make this stuff up it's not possible but we're gonna look at that week in more detail because there's a whole bunch of things about this week and the one thing that this shows and that we saw when elder Jeff was in Alberta in August is that this is marking 2014 and we're gonna look at this in more detail we're going to discuss it a little bit so this is representing May 2nd or the PBM or whatever we want to call it this is marking an event that occurred in 2014 and we're going to see how that is as we look at this whole structure but we're going to use this week to do it as well so we're going to take this covenant week and create a structure that's going to show us that's going to confirm what happened in 2014 and what where we are now in this message so I hope that wasn't too confusing but you have your paper you can go over it and I suggest that you draw these things out because once you draw them out then you realize okay this this works you know it's not just on the board when I draw them out plus you also need to show them to other people these are a very simple studies really I always make them way too complicated but they're simpler and they're things that you could show to people you could just go through the Bible with them slowly you don't have to do it in an hour and a half you can do it over a period of studies with somebody who's you know gonna go through the Bible slowly so yes Cathy Geor dia yeah it's a puzzle that turns back on itself so they're really cool there's all kinds of I love puzzles okay so we're gonna close in prayer and remember it's the Sabbath and you know so in our conversation as we leave remember that and of course we look forward to seeing you all tomorrow in church and I will be a real blessing and we have some people you know this is going to be their last Sabbath here for a while and some people are here for the Sabbath for the first time you know in this semester and so Sabbath is always a blessing in the fellowship that we have
